On Sunday the 27th of October l made a last minute decision to head to my local water for a quick overnight session. I had a good feeling that the biggest fish in the lake, known as Seven Scales was going to come out. She normally makes an appearance at this time of year and I thought she was well overdue to grace the bank again.
After a quiet night, I woke up at 4am as the weather was really bad. I re-baited the rods and put out a scattering of bait over the top of each spot. Just forty five minutes later I had a run and after picking up the rod, I had a really good feeling of what fish I had hooked. After an amazing fight that seemed to last ages, I finally slipped the net under a fish I soon recognised as Seven Scales. I was really happy as I have been targeting this specific fish for around four years now. For the record the fish weighed 38lb 0oz and after getting a few pictures, I carefully slipped her back.
I landed the fish using a tweaked version of the KD rig using a size 8 Covert Longshank Mugga hook, a Sink Skin hooklength and a double 15mm CC Moore Live System boilie over 20-30 boilies.
