• Darren Belton Profile

I have been fishing since the age of five, initially catching small roach and perch. As I hit my early teens Tench became an obsession, then pike and eventually carp. I have been carp angling for over 35 years now and have fished a whole host of waters; from 2-acre puddles to inland seas. It’s difficult to say which I prefer, but I do like to watch and try to work out where the fish will turn up before they actually get there. So trap setting is my preferred style of angling.

Over the years I have been very fortunate to have some fantastic waters right on my doorstep but I have also travelled a fair distance too. I have recently landed my 48th carp over the magical 40lb mark, this includes six over 50lb, two commons and four mirrors, with my current pb of 58lb 12oz.

I have written for various angling magazines over the year, which I thoroughly enjoy doing, including Coarse Fisherman, Angling Times and CarpWorld to name but a few.

At the moment, I am concentrating on an intimate little lake in Sussex, that holds some fantastic looking carp; so hopefully another chunk will come my way in the very near future. But if I’m honest, I’m just enjoying being there. These days enjoying it is far more important to me and I select the waters I fish with that forefront in my mind.

I am delighted to have taken this position with Gardner and have been made to feel very welcome. I can’t wait to work with all of the guys at the shows and hopefully contribute to the testing and design of any new products.
