I headed back to my local syndicate lake and quickly set up in a swim I had fished before and done well in. I found a gravel spot about 45-50 yards out and got my spod rod and two rods clipped up to the spot. My third rod was going to be used with a solid bag cast to any clear areas in the weed. I was running out of time as the light was fading fast, so I quickly despatched fifteen spods of particle and five of 15mm Mainline Cell boilies and got the rods on their spots for the night.

The following morning I got my Gardner Weed Rake out as there was a band of weed covering the front of the swim and I didn’t want it to cause any problems if I hooked a fish. I waited until after bite time before I started and managed to clear the front of the swim, which also had the added benefit of allowing me to sink my lines. I got my rods clipped up to their spots again and put the same amount of spods out as I did before and got the rods back out for the night. My mate in next swim down popped over and I had a good feeling. I said to my mate ‘I’m going to catch one of the big commons tomorrow’.

I awoke to a screaming take at 6:30am and straight away it felt like a decent fish. I soon got a glimpse of it and at first I thought it was mid 20lb mirror, however when I got a better look I noticed it was a decent common and I soon slipped the net under it. I popped it in a sack for a few minutes and went to grab my mate. I commented about my prediction the evening before as we walked back to my swim. The scales read 30lb 8oz, a new PB common and I couldn’t believe it! After a couple of quick snaps, I slipped her back and as I was doing that my other rod went off, which resulted in a 21lb 8oz common. The action didn’t stop there and a few hours later I had another fish, this time a pretty mirror weighing 16lb 14oz.

Unsurprisingly it went quiet for a while, so at half three in the afternoon I topped the spots up with some more bait. As I was tying some fresh rigs, I had another take and I called my mate over to help with the net, in the clear water I saw it was another big common. On the mat we soon recognised it as a named fish and it looked bigger than the one I’d had only a few hours before. The scales read 32lb 6oz, two common pb’s in a day, what more could I have wanted!

I got the rods out for the last night and early the following morning I had a 22lb 10oz mirror. Just as I was packing up I had my final bite of the session, another mirror this time weighing 22lb 12oz. I caught all these fish on 15mm Mainline Cell, topped off with a 12mm Clockwork orange pop-up. End tackle consisted of a C-Thru brown Covert Lead Clip and Tail Rubber, a six inch hooklink made from 25lb Sink Skin and a size 6 Covert Incizor tied blow back style.
