I was first introduced to fishing when I was 11. My Uncle John, took me along to one of the Christchurch Angling club open days, where I fished with Andy Little and caught a double figure carp. From that day I was hooked!
I started off fishing some of the local lakes, just happy to catch whatever came along and learning basic coarse fishing tactics. When I was about 14 I started working weekends at Davis Tackle, which is on the doorstep of one of the most famous stretches of the Hampshire Avon.
This led to several years of fishing the Hampshire Avon and Dorset Stour targeting mainly barbel and chub. I can remember going to bait up on lunch breaks and then returning after work for a few hours in the evening. It was ideal as I was allowed to keep my fishing gear out the back of the shop which made things easier as I was too young to drive at the time.
It wasn’t until I was in my late teens that I started carp fishing properly. I fished a few years on some local club lakes and caught some decent carp up to just over 37lb. In more recent times I’ve been fortunate enough to join a couple of local syndicates. The last couple of years I have mainly spent on Roach pit and caught some great carp. I still enjoy fishing for other species, particularly in the colder months as it brings back so many fond childhood memories.
