I have been fishing from as long as I can remember starting out with a net with my dad. At the age of four my dad took me on the river catching small trout, grayling and pike. A few years later when I was about six, I went to my first lake called Greenridge and caught my first ever carp and from then on I was hooked! Every Saturday I went to a junior fishing club and also went with Tom Oliver (Team FLE) who taught me how to whip fish and from then I progressed to carp fishing.
I have now been carp fishing for around three years and started on a heavily stocked private water. After a few months I landed my first proper PB weighing 18lb. For me that was huge and I had never seen a fish that big before, so from then on I started targeting a few more bigger fish. That year went well and I landed loads of low doubles and the year after (aged 12) I went fishing in France for a week and caught six fish, the biggest was a 47lb 13oz mirror and a 45lb 6oz common.
After I returned I went everywhere to try and catch a twenty and travelled from the Isle of Wight to Oxford and landed fish up to 18lbs. I went to my local water about five minutes away from home called Lakeside and within a few hours I got the bite I had been waiting for. After a fifteen minute battle my mate slipped the net underneath it and we instantly recognised it as the Big Leather and new it was my first twenty. It weighed 23lb 4oz and I was so pleased to have achieved my target for that year. After that I stuck to that water and my PB kept bumping up to 24lb, 25lb and then 27lb.
I did a night before New Year’s Eve and that night I banked the biggest in the lake called 7 Scales weighing 39lb 6oz, I was speechless and couldn’t believe it. I also caught it again in January this year weighing 38lb 7oz, which appeared on the front page of Carp Talk.
In 2013 I am looking forward to fishing in France, the Isle of Wight and fishing the BYCAC in the summer. I am also hoping to progress my angling success by fishing more carp matches, banking a few fish out of Ringwood and appearing more in the carp magazines.
