Long time friend of Gardner Tackle, ‘Sir’ Pete Springate, has just achieved a truly remarkable feat of carp angling by catching a carp off the top on the 1st February 2013.Pete with one of his many floater caught carp

It’s a remarkable feat in so much as this capture takes his tally of surface caught fish in consecutive months to 48….

Yes! That’s four years of catching a carp off the top in every single calendar month, despite several of the worst freeze ups for years. It’s almost impossible to imagine how he has managed this astonishing angling achievement!

Utterly and completely amazing are the words we use for it!!

Pete's favourite floater hook

Some fish were even taken through holes in the ice and though you would be forgiven for assuming they must have come from overstocked commercial hungry fisheries in the hardest months, the truth of the matter is that his outstanding tally has come from several waters, NONE of which are considered remotely easy by the anglers that fish them…

The photos shown are of fish taken on Pete’s first visit to a venue in the company of our very own Gardner Tackle employee Chris Maltby who said “After just two visits to what I consider to be a difficult water, where the fish are really easily spooked, Peter proceeded to show me exactly why he is so successful and well respected. He managed five fish including three mid-twenties on our Covert Wide Gape Talon Tips – and his results made me go away and totally rethink my floater fishing approach! He is relentless in his quest to catch carp and I think the 48 months ‘off the top‘ tally shows exactly that”.

What can we say, except well done Peter from everyone here at Gardner Tackle.
